Aligned graphite anode for Li ion batteries (top, credit: Bouville), Magnetic healing of asphalt (bottom, credit: Jeoffroy)
The novel functionalities arising from our complex structures are exploited in specific applications to eventually translate our fundamental research into useful materials and designs in the areas of health, energy and smart structures. This results in a wide range of devices and products from artificial heart valves and scaffolds for tissue regeneration to adsorption heat pumps and architectured anodes for lithium ion batteries to substrates for stretchable electronics and self-healing bitumen for asphalt pavements.
